As surprising as it may sound, this grapefruit & lavender gin fizz cocktail is the very first alcohol recipe I’m posting on the blog. I may be used to make different kinds of cuisine, cooking with alcohol has always impressed me, most of all because of the precise measurements that it requires to make the perfectly balanced mix. It’s finally quite similar to baking, for which I’m usually rather following my gut feelings rather than precise quantities. Being a cocktail lover, I still wanted to give it a try by starting with this grapefruit & lavender gin fizz cocktail, which is perfect for starting a hot summer evening.
As I almost totally stopped to buy fruit juice or syrups since I reduced my sugar intake, I prepared my own lavender syrup as well as grapefruit juice, indeed. Beyond the quality and pleasure that are brought by homemade products, I’ve always been convinced that ingredients or recipe components that are self-made are always tastier and more real than store-bought and industrial products that have been made months ago. Even though I started it without knowing what to expect at the end, the combination of lavender and grapefruit fits perfectly together as the sweetness of syrup soften the bitterness of citrus.
If you don’t feel like doing your own lavender syrup or grapefruit juice, you can still buy them ready to use in a store, but the final result might be sensibly different. Don’t hesitate to add a good dose of ice cubes to your glass to fully enjoy your gin fizz!

Chocolate & lavender mousse
- 2,5cl gin
- 5cl grapefruit juice
- 1tbsp lavender syrup
- 125ml sparkling water (Perrier style)
- 1 grapefruit
- 200g white sugar
- 20cl water
- 8g lavender flowers
- 1. The day before, prepare the lavender syrup: heat water and sugar together in a small pan, until sugar gets completely dissolved. Turn off fire and add lavender flowers into the syrup. Cover and let infuse at room temperature for 24h. When ready, filter the syrup and pour it into a bottle. Set aside in fridge.
- 2. Prepare the grapefruit juice: peel the grapefruit and take away its membranes. Add grapefruit flesh and juice to a blender and blend until you get a purée. Using a sieve and the back of a spoon, filter the grapefruit juice in a bowl, in order to make it thinner.
- 3. In each glass, add in the following order 2,5cl gin, 1tbsp lavender syrup, 5cl grapefruit juice and 125ml sparkling water. Stir with a stick or a straw and serve cold with some ice cubes.
